Merry Christmas / Happy Holidays!

For the first time this year with only a few days left before the end of the year, I find myself posting a news article. Mostly I just wanted to take a few minutes to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy Holiday!

Upcoming Data Center Move

Hello everyone, This is a note to inform of an upcoming datacenter move that will take place sometime during February 2008. The company whose datacenter this server is hosted at is moving locations to a bigger and better facility at a different location. The exact date of this move has not been scheduled for our server yet. More information on that will be posted when it becomes available. The implication for this means that we will face a few hours downtime on the scheduled day for the server to move physically between both datacenter buildings, and potentially a little longer if there are any network complications with the configuration of our gear and assigned ip's. I will post more details as they become available. Thank you for your patience during this transition. --AlienCC

Warnings

I am just making an announcement that we have decided that we have been pretty lax when it comes to moderation of the forum. There will be very few changes, but the warnings now have meaning. Most of the below is directly from me. It used to be that we would just keep warning and the warn indicators would go up without consequence. In Fact, it was even a joke that someone poked fun of by messing with their signature to show a 250% warning. Truthfully, warnings had no merit except for us to take notes. There are 4 warning levels in increments of 25% ranging from 0 to 100%. Each Warning level now has an action we take as UTI-STAFF. The first warning for example is just a warning... there are some temporary bans as well some where in the middle of the list, and at 100% you are permanently banned to never return. Warnings will now be posted with longer comments about 1 paragraph (minimum 3 sentences) and a link will be included too. Any questions or comments can be brought forth via Private Message or IRC (unless banned). With this in mind, private IRC messaging is probably best as arguing about a ban only causes heat in the channel. You will NOT be banned or punished for talking to an Admin or Staff Member in private. Bans will be implemented only if you go against our written Terms and Conditions in a public forum. In other words, publicly on the forum. If you wish to PM me and call me a moron, an idiot, or give a general shutout, I can take it and will not implement a warning. If you interfere with or cause problems for others, I will intervene.

The collage is complete, and so is the scrapbook. See it here. If you send a belated photograph of your calculator and a blurb to me via e-mail, then you'll be granted a page as well. Just keep in mind that these graphing calculators are the objects that brought you here—celebrate them!

Fondly -F-a-h-r-e-n-h-e-i-t- Farewell

Dear UnitedTI community, I've been honored to serve as the moderator of your humor and jokes forum for a long time now, and I've had a lot of fun doing it. Sadly, my free time has declined steadily over the last year, culminating in a 168hrs/week summer job that will occupy me for the next 9 weeks straight, during which time I will have extremely limited Internet access, further hindering my ability to moderate for our community. Because of this I feel obligated to step down as moderator, and allow another to take my place. I am, as of now, unsure whether I will be able to return to the community after the end of my 9 week tenure at New England Frontier Camp, as I will be entering my senior year of highschool, during which I will be taking 2 college math classes, and my second upper-level college computer science class, as well as working on applying to college, finishing my eagle project, taking several big trips, and maintaining my social life in the real world (yes, I *do* have one). If, due to these pressures, I am unable to return to the community, I will release the source code of all my current projects, with the only request being that they stay community maintained and opensource so that they don't die out before completion, and that I am credited as co-author when they are finally released on ticalc.org. I wish you all good luck, and hope to encounter some of you in the real world. It's been an amazing 2.5 years since I first acquired my calculator, and I hope the rest of you have enjoyed my stay as much as I have. Fondly Farewell, elfprince13 Thomas Dickerson.
